Step 2. Hot Milling

The Hot Milling Machine

The Hot Milling Machine removes the preheated and softened surface to a depth of 50 mm without crushing the aggregates. This process maintains the original gradation, enabling successful Hot In-Place (HIR) mix designs with 80% recycled content

The Cold Milling Problem

The removal of a cold, hard pavement surface requires maximum horsepower and brute force. This process crushes the existing aggregates during removal, which alters the gradation and limits the average recycled material content in surface pavements to 20%

The Hot Milling Solution

Preheating softens the surface, which eliminates aggregate crushing. The preservation of the original aggregate gradation allows for the creation of new asphalt equivalent HIR pavements that consist of 80% recycled materials and 20% new materials.

  • Up to 50 mm depth

  • Consistent depth control

  • Avoids aggregate fracture

  • Preserves original gradation

  • Enables 80% recycled conte

Features and Benefits

We believe that cumulative effect of these advancements will result in HIR becoming a mainstream choice of pavement managers around the World.
